Top 10 Most Funded Kickstarter Video Games

Kickstarter games in general are insanely popular if you haven’t heard. One subcategory that is gaining traction is video games. Here are the top 10 most funded Kickstarter video games ever.

Most Popular Kickstarter Video Games of All-Time

1. Shenmue 3 ($6,333,295)

If you don’t know what Y2K is, then you are most likely too young to know any video games pre-2000s.

Thankfully for you, Shenmue was widely popular, and the creators were able to make not one but two new versions of the game, with the third being one of the most popular video games on Kickstarter!

2. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night ($5,545,991)

IGAVANIA (n): A gothic, exploration-focused action platformer, designed by one of the godfathers of the genre!

In this action-packed video game, all you have to do is battle your way through a demon-filled castle summoned by an old friend. Oh, and you’ve been scarred by an alchemist curse which slowly crystallizes your body. Seems like a piece of cake to me!

3. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes ($4,042,372)

The creators of the Eiyuden Chronicle series have had wild success with each game they produce. So why not develop another game with yet another intricate story and a gigantic cast of characters?!

Fortunately for my ego, each game is more popular than the last on Kickstarter and can back up my thought process!

4. Torment: Tides of Numenera ($4,188,927)

If you’re someone like me, background music can make or break any experience for me no matter if it’s in a video game or that one time I stepped foot in a gym three years ago (never again…)

Torment: Tides of Numenera comes with music from Mark Morgan that gives just enough creepiness to keep you on the edge of your seat without making you run for your security blanket.

5. Pillars of Eternity (formerly Project Eternity) ($3,986,929)

Ever reminisce on the old day’s pre iPhones, Uber Eats, Zoom meetings and TikTok? Project Eternity aims to recapture the magic, imagination, depth, and nostalgia of classic RPG’s that we enjoyed making – and playing.

This role-playing game is only for PC – sorry Apple Heads.

6. Mighty No. 9 ($3,845,170)

The idea of robots taking over the world isn’t too far off in Mighty No. 9.

In this game, you play as the 9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by a mysterious computer virus that has caused mechanized creatures the world over to go rogue.

This game may make me trust my computer and electronic devices a little less…

7. Double Fine Adventure ($3,336,371)

Back in 2012 – ah simpler times – Double Fine and 2 Player Productions set up a Kickstarter campaign for 33 days for their game Double Fine Adventure.

Welp the overachievers they are, they didn’t need a knowable fraction of that time as they met their goal in EIGHT hours. Incredible since Kickstarter was still relatively new!

8. Ashes of Creation ~ New MMORPG by Intrepid Studios ($3,271,809)

The creators of Ashes of Creation envisioned a game that would bring Massive back to Massively Multiplayer.

It took everything that we love about MMORPG and brought it into the future by going further than just picking class, race and gear. All of civilization is the responsibility of our players, and how that civilization evolves comes down to what our players decide.

After this game, who would want to go back to the old and boring MMO experience?

9. Yooka-Laylee – A 3D Platformer Rare-vival! ($2,755,551)

Even if you are not a total video game junky, I would bet my Pokemon collection that you’ve heard of Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country.

The creative talent behind those games brought Yooka-Laylee to life as a 3D platformer and created a spiritual successor to their most cherished work from the past.

10. Wasteland 2 ($2,933,252)

The masterminds behind Wasteland 2 prove that being the first at something sometimes does pay off!

Wasteland 2 is the direct sequel to the first-ever post-apocalyptic computer RPG. The original Wasteland was the inspiration for the FALLOUT series of games, and the first RPG to allow players to split parties for tactical considerations, to face players with moral choices, and to make them deal with the consequences of their actions.
